Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Kimmy Schmidt spent the last 15 years hostage in an underground bunker run by apocalypse cult leader, Richard Wayne Gary Wayne. When she and the 3 other mole women finally escape, Kimmy decides to start a new life in New York City.

It seems like ages since this show came out on Netflix and season 2 is finally premiering in two weeks! So I thought I'd go ahead and watch the show again to refresh my memory.

The pilot starts on a good foot. Its best feature, I think, is it's ability to lightheartedly poke fun at and parody current events. Most notably the autotuned opening song which obviously is a take on the "Bedroom Intruder", both of which were produced by Schmoyoho. Even Kimmy's extremely tragic circumstance is taken lightly. I mean the three women kidnapped by Ariel Castro had escaped just a little more than a year before this show was released. I would think that with the proximity of that event to the release of the series, Kimmy Schmidt might seem a little offensive. But it didn't feel that way at all.

This show has an interesting cast as well. Ellie Kemper sorta plays a similar character in almost every production she's in and so Kimmy was also Erin from The Office to me. That's okay though. Who doesn't like Erin Hannon?! You can really feel Tina Fey radiating through the comedy style too. If you're a fan of Bridesmaids, the Office, or 30 Rock, this is probably a show for you.

RATING

Originality: 5/5
Attention Lock-ability: 4/5
Soundtrack: 4/5
Ep. 2 Worthy?: Sure!
