The 100

So...I'm actually caught up with this show and I think I started on it back in December. But, it would be wrong of me to run a TV blog and not share this one. Here's what you need to know.

It begins 97 years after the Earth has been destroyed by a nuclear apocalypse. We're taken into the Ark, a space station holding the surviving human population. With their resources hitting critically low, the leaders of the Ark have decided to send down 100 juvenile delinquents to the Earth to see whether or not it is inhabitable again. Good news is that the Earth is alive and well again -- but they're not alone.

Our protagonist, Clarke Griffin, explains all that and a little more in the first minute of the pilot, so we're all caught up. The next minute, the "kids" are already strapped in and blasted into Earth's atmosphere. In the ship and all throughout the pilot, we learn that many of these kids were exiled for the littlest mistakes even for sneaking some extra food, wasting oxygen, or just being born!

What I really like about this show are it's realistic qualities. The plot, the setting, how these people got to where they are don't seem to be that crazy. I mean the show is set in 2149 C.E., I think technology will be advanced enough to take humans into space by that time.

Since this is the pilot, much of this episode is exploring the territory, introducing the characters and dipping into their past. But we're seeing things for the first time just like them -- the complete succession of plant life, glow-in-the-dark trees, abandoned vehicles and buildings, and the mutated animals!

As the episode plays out, we're constantly switching between the Earth cam and back on the Ark. This becomes a major part of the show because the juveniles and the space station lose almost all communication with each other save the bracelets that each kid is wearing, which keeps track of their vital signs. The audience is the only one who knows what's really going on so it's interesting to see what these people assume and learn through the little info that they're getting.

I won't totally spoil this pilot, though. I should mention that the 100 is notorious for their cliffhanger endings and I can tell you now this is worth your next 42 minutes. Give it a shot.

RATING

Originality: 5/5 (pilot gets a perfect score, but the show overall I think is a 4.5 in originality)
Attention Lock-Ability: 5/5
Soundtrack: 5/5
Ep. 2 Worthy: YES
